How do I play with my 2-month-old baby?
Welcome to Insan, where we’re here to help you answer questions about your children. Let’s start by understanding what your baby needs at this stage.
Babies under three months old need:
• Things to see, touch, hear, smell, and taste.
• Different activities.
• Bonding with adults.
• Love and affection.
• Safety.
• Healthy food.
• Healthcare.
• Adults who can understand them and respond to their needs.
• Being held, sung to, and rocked.
• Someone to talk to.
Babies love playing with you the most! Your face and voice make them happy, especially when you smile. Toys of different sizes, colors, and shapes help babies practice reaching and grabbing things. Furniture, balls, and toys encourage crawling, standing, and walking. “Tummy time” and ‘’Floor playing’’ help babies develop strong muscles in their head, neck, and body. Always watch over babies when they’re on their tummies.
What are the normal behaviors of a one-year-old child that indicate having a healthy social development?
At Insan, we’re here to help answer your questions about your children. Every child is unique and develops at his/her own pace. For example, a child may develop physically quickly but he/she may start talking later than other children, which is very normal.
However, if a child consistently misses certain milestones, it could be a signal of having a problem. In such cases, consulting a doctor is a must, as most children catch up with support. All areas of physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language development are important to be monitored closely.
Children aged one to two years old show the following social development characteristics:
• Speak with short phrases.
• Use one word in different ways.
• Understand simple directions.
• Like to copy sounds.
• Understand the basic rules and limits.
• Recognize familiar things, people, and animals.
• Enjoy talking with others.
• Start using two-word sentences.
• Know over 50 words.
• Enjoy playing with people they know.
• Point to and name body parts.
• Ask for permission.
My child is seven years old, and he is learning to read. How can I help him improve his language skills?
At age seven, children are learning a lot in school and at home. They become more responsible for their role as students, but they still need guidance and encouragement.
They become more aware of the world around them. They may feel shy sometimes, compare themselves to others, and become more independent in expressing themselves.
Children at this age start to feel anxious about things happening in the world around them like wars and develop a sense of right and wrong. It’s important to monitor their development closely.
To enhance their language skills, you can:
• Read stories with them.
• Cook using recipes together.
• Encourage writing personal journals, stories, and plays.
